The meteoric rise of mobile computing continues to raise tensions between the four great powers of the Internet – Google, Apple, Amazon and Facebook. There were tech industry rivalries in the past, such as between Microsoft and Netscape in the 1990s, but they pale in comparison because today’s combatants have far greater financial firepower. The complex and ever-increasing battegrounds include mobile operating systems, social networking, e-commerce, hardware, cloud computing, maps, music, e-books and more. It may be years before we see any winners.
